Sirin Development has certified its entire portfolio of warehouses under the BREEAM international sustainable building standard

Sirin Development, one of the largest industrial real estate development and management companies in the Baltics, has certified all its warehouses under the BREEAM standard. The company has certified a total of 11 industrial properties – 8 in Lithuania and 3 in Latvia.

The international standard for sustainable buildings ensures that facilities have less impact on nature and people through environmentally friendly and health-oriented property development and management.

“We certify the buildings we manage and develop under the BREEAM standard in order to gradually form a new understanding of quality in the market for industrial real estate. We are among the first in the Baltics to fully certify our portfolio of warehouses – all our buildings have earned a BREEAM In-Use rating of VERY GOOD. We’re proud to be one of the Baltic region’s leaders in this area and to be able to set an example for other companies,” Sirin Development CEO Laurynas Kuzavas says.

He adds that BREEAM not only enables the effective implementation of sustainability solutions in developed properties, but also brings clear tangible benefits for clients.

“With energy prices up, lower maintenance and utility costs are extremely important for warehouse tenants. The BREEAM assessment looks at factors like efficient heating systems, components that consume little water, energy-efficient lighting, waste separation, use of renewable energy sources, and a building’s suitability for work and recreation on the part of people,” Kuzavas notes.

Moreover, certified buildings are more commercially successful, cheaper to maintain and have a higher residual value. Amid the growing awareness of global climate change, demand for sustainable buildings is increasing year by year, and having a BREEAM rating makes a property more attractive to both potential tenants and investors. Environmentally friendly buildings also reflect the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles that many companies declare.

Sirin Development’s list of BREEAM-certified facilities includes the Kaunas Logistics Centre, the Liepkalnis, Jočionių 55 and GLP logistics parks in Vilnius, and the Rumbula Logistics Park in Riga.

About the BREEAM standard

BREEAM is the world’s most widely used and leading system for assessing and certifying the environmental impact of buildings. It ensures facilities are economically and energy efficient, provide ergonomic workspaces, help reduce CO2 emissions and contribute to the conservation of local flora and fauna.
